Effect of Toxic Stress on the Brain

On October 12, 2012 Lawrence shared a radio program link from NPR with research on the effects of toxis stress on the child's brain and ability to learn in school. It's an hour long if you have the time to listen – produced in Chicago.  http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/474/back-to-school

So many in our society want to blame and penalize those that have been "nurtured by neglect". It's a tough call as we cannot condone behaviors that harm others; and those that haven't received enough love do not know how to bestow it on others. But now there is evidence coming forward that shows the physiological impact and toll of insufficient love.

Unfortunately, this article did not define the parameters of "neglect".

A case where nurture defines nature ... that the generational chain to be broken.

A link from bob Koehler's latest peace commentary column

Wanted to share this link with you, that appeared in Bob Koehler's latest column on the Newtown shootings.

We have been talking about building a culture of nonviolence ever since we incorporated. Nice to see others talking about it and doing some thinking on our behalf as well. Not many action steps here, but maybe something for the bibliography and perhaps a resource for our panel discussion, our Peace Innovation Lab we discussed.
